Summer Enrichment

GOAL will be offering summer school AND extended learning opportunities this summer from June - July, 2023. 

Please review the offerings and details below. Use the form under each section to sign up your student!

iReady Summer Enrichment (Grades 1-8): June 12th-July 16th: 

This option is being offered to students in 1st-8th grade.  This will be an extension of the iReady course taken during the school year.  iReady is an individualized reading and math course that provides every student with enrichment and intervention in their identified areas of strengths and weaknesses.  This course will track each student’s instructional time and learning path.  Students will have the opportunity to earn prizes for lessons passed throughout the course.

Credit Recovery Summer School (High School): June 12th-July 16th:

The intention of this option is to make up for any credit deficiency a student may have in grades 9-12. We will offer online courses in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies, and a few electives including Personal Finance, Health, Physical Education, and Careers. Make sure you contact your School Counselor to sign up. If you do not know who your counselor is, please click here to find their contact info!

Book Clubs (K-12): 

Book clubs are being offered to all GOAL students. Each grade level will have specific books that will match grade-level reading abilities and student interests. All students who participate in a book club will be supplied with books and journaling supplies at no cost. The students will read assigned sections of the book and meet virtually once a week with the book club teacher and students to have group discussions and make connections to the text. The book club books  & schedule are listed below:

Grade 1-2: Books: Mercy Watson to the Rescue & Mercy Watson Fights Crime

Grade 3-4: Books: Lemonade War & Lemonade Crime

• Meeting Dates and Times: June 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th & July 3rd at 9:30 am

Grade 5-6: Books: Old Willis Place & Wait til Helen Comes

• Meeting Dates and Times: June 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th at 11:00 am

Grades 7-8: Books: One for the Murphy's & Crossover

• Meeting Dates and Times: June 15th, 22nd, 29th, & July 6th, 13th at 12:00 pm

Grades 9-12: Books: Perks of Being a Wallflower & Just Listen

American Sign Language (ASL) Workshop (Grades 6-12):

Introduction to American Sign Language (ASL) is an opportunity for students to learn the basics of ASL. Come and learn the alphabet, how to introduce yourself, how to describe people, places, and things, and also how to ask for help using shape, placement, and movement of the hands, as well as facial expressions and body movements. 

 

• Meeting Dates and Times: June 6th, 8th, 13th, 15th, 20th, 22nd, 27th, 29th, July 6th, 11th, 13th, 1-2 pm - Online

Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) (Grades 9-12):

Come play D&D with Mrs. Deming and Mr. Stauffer as your dungeon masters. Dungeons and Dragons is an interactive fantasy role-playing game that can build problem-solving skills, promote creativity, and provide the opportunity to socialize, make friends, and be a part of something fun!  Never played before? That’s okay! Come create a character and join in the fun! Two hours every week. Join the quest, level up, and become a champion!

Cosplay Workshop (Grades 6-12):

Learn more about creating your own costumes and props. Mrs. Deming has over 20 years of experience creating cosplay works of art. Ask questions about making your own cosplay and even complete a small cosplay craft!

 

• Meeting Date and Time: June 7th, 12-3 pm - Mansfield Lab

Theatre Workshop (Grades 6-12):

Enjoy improv games, and acting workshops, and learn more about costumes, sets, props, lighting, and sound. We’ll be watching theatre performances as well as creating our own and getting comfortable performing in front of others. Be goofy! Most importantly, be you!

Writer’s Workshop Mansfield (Grades 6-12):

Ever wanted feedback on your writing? Need ideas brainstorming? Or just need to organize your thoughts on paper? Come get some

one-on-one time with Mrs. Deming and work on your novel ideas and stories!

 

• Meeting Date and Time: June 20th, 1-3 pm - Mansfield Lab

Creative Writing Workshop Galion (Grades 7-12):

Come join Mr. Guins this summer in a quiet creative writing workspace. This will simply be an opportunity for any fellow pen-pushers to get some independent creative writing done in a quiet environment! Creative writing can include poetry, short story writing, blogging, screenwriting, journaling, flash fiction, letter writing, fan fiction, lyric writing, reporting, free writing, and more! If you so desire, Mr. Guins will be available to give you some friendly creative writing tips!

Fishing (Grades 10-12, Limit 20 Students):

Join us for a morning of fun, fishing, and learning about nature at Amick Reservoir! Poles and bait will be supplied.

 

• Meeting Date and Time: June 9th, 10 am- 1 pm - Galion Lab

Live-Action-Role-Play (LARP) Workshop (Grades 3-12):

LARP stands for Live-Action-Role-Play. LARP uses padded foam swords, shields, and other weapons to mimic medieval combat in a safe, controlled way. Come learn how to make foam weapons and shields, go over the rules of the game, and do some one-on-one and group combat to test out your skills. LARP is a fun way to make friends, test your skills, and see if you have the heart of a champion!

Art Enrichment Activity Galion (Grades 10-12):

Join us for a fun-filled morning of Arts and Crafts!

 

• Meeting Date and Time: June 20th, 10 am- 12 pm - Galion

Digital Art Workshop Delaware (Grades 7-12, Limit 10 Students):

Join your classmates for a Digital Art Workshop using Apple iPads and Apple Pencils to create an awesome project you can print and take home! Learn invaluable digital art skills to improve your creativity and try a new medium! Apple iPads and Apple Pencils will be provided for use. Lunch will be provided.

 

• Meeting Date and Time: June 9th, 10 am- 12 pm - Delaware Lab

Choir Workshop Marion (Grades 7-12):

Join your classmates and spend the start of summer staying connected to friends through 

music. The Choir workshop will focus on teaching proper singing techniques in choral style, 

and connect students to area musicians/groups to allow for trying different styles. A short 

performance will be held in the Marion Lab Atrium for family and friends during our last meeting.

Summer Math Enrichment Online (Grade 8):

This summer class was created as a review of elementary and middle school math concepts for 8th graders transitioning into high school. Join Ms. Angeline, one of our high school math teachers, to review and prepare for the high school-level course and experience the website you will use next school year!
